Good Friday / Great Friday

Yesterday was the beginning of a four day weekend and I couldn’t be happier about it. I had flights booked to go home to Ireland since December and I was really excited to go home. Usually, my trips home are flying visits, getting in very late on Friday and flying out Sunday early evening. It only ever feels like I get one day at a time.

For the two and a half years I’ve been together, the Bulgarian has made a habit of coming to see me off to the airport bus whenever I head off to see my family. At Christmas, he actually got on the tube all the way to Heathrow with me when I was flying to the US to my parents. It’s one of his sweetest gestures. This week, he’s been quite unwell so I wasn’t expecting to be escorted to the bus, but lo and behold, there he was on my doorstep yesterday morning.

After I finished my packing, we still had a couple of hours to go before I had to take the coach to the airport so we headed out for lunch. Initially we wanted to go to Wahaca but when we walked by, there wasn’t a soul in the restaurant. I don’t know about you, but I hate eating anywhere that I’m the only customer. It just feels very awkward. No matter, we headed back in the direction of Spitalfields Market.

There, we ended up in Las Iguanas, who had a lunch menu running. We got a dish called dadhinas to start, which were essentially fried cubes of cheese with a sweet chilli dipping sauce. So yum.

For a main, the Bulgarian got a Cuban sandwich, which he loved, and I got butternut squash tacos. The tacos were pretty good, but the portion was very small and not quite worth the £7 price tag I feel.

As it turns out, the market was having an African themed day, so lots of the stalls were selling African food or brilliantly coloured African print clothes. There was a small stage as well, with musicians playing throughout the day.

It was such a beautiful day out that I almost didn’t want to go away. After lunch, we only really had about 40 minutes. Enough time to nip home, double check I have everything and head for the bus.

Dublin looked really pretty as I passed through it on the way to my grandma’s house last night. I got in the door about 8, so had enough time to hang out with grandma a little bit. We ordered some dinner and watched Dirty Dancing before heading off to bed.

All in all, I think Good Friday was a pretty great day. Looking forward to the rest of the weekend!
