This year has been the Bulgarian’s final year in university. I did mine last year, and as I’m sure many of you can empathise, it’s tough going through final year. There are lots of deadlines, lots of work, sleepless nights and very little time for anything else. As a result, we haven’t been seeing each other as often as we’d both like, but the time we do spend together, we’ve tried to make the most of.
Last week, he was walking me to the tube as we passed Dum Dum Donutterie on Brick Lane. If you haven’t been, its a really cute little doughnut shop that specialises in cronuts – a kind of a hybrid between a croissant and doughnut.
I don’t have the biggest sweet tooth, but he really does, and I could see his eyes light up at the doughnuts. We bought one to share and two coffees and had a little mini breakfast date before work. It was really sweet (pun intended) and a nice way to catch a little bit more time together before work.
Fast forward to Saturday morning. He had to get going to work on his dissertation, which is due this Friday, so I suggested we get up early and head over to Spitalfields market to get a bite to eat before he has to take off.
I’m not sure I’d ever seen the market this empty on a Saturday. This picture was taken at about 9am. The market had a Barcelona market on, and it looked like they were just setting up.
We decided to go for crepes in Crepe Affaire. I figured it was a good shout, because they had savoury for me and sweet for him.
He surprised me by ordering a savoury meat crepe, which he said was delicious. I got a basil, tomato and mozzarella one and loved it.
After breakfast, we went for a very short wander around the still empty market. Turns out that Estrella, the beer, was sponsoring the event.
A quick jaunt around Tiger – I loved these pastel ice cream bowls. So cute.
Spotted this truck on my way home, guess it was transporting everything for the day’s event!
It was a really nice way to grab a little time together, and it was actually really pleasant to be up and about so early on a Saturday morning! I often go for drinks with work on Friday nights, so it’s rare you’d have me up, dressed and in a restaurant by 9am, but this was lovely.
As much as I love evenings out or in and whole weekends spent together, breakfast dates are fast becoming a new favourite way to snatch some time together!
